Photo Gallery
These photos are from Killington Ski Resort in Killington, VT. Some were taken in May at the tail end of the long season at Killington, while others are from February, the peak of the season. Killington is beautiful year round, and offers a great variety of terrain and off-snow resort activities.
Killington Peak
The summit of Killington Peak offers both great terrain and amazing views. To reach the summit of Killington Peak, you can take the K1 Express Gondola from the K1 base area. From the top, there are intermediate, advanced and expert level options for getting back to the base area.
For a relaxing ride down, Solitude will take you on a 3.1 mile journey through the trees, and bring you all the way over to the top of Sunrise Mountain, a smaller peak and beginner area.
Mountain Top Dining
Killington has many options for mountain top and mid-mountain dining, most of which are only open during peak season.
This photo shows the view from the Peak Lodge, at the summit of Killington Peak. The lodge food court offers chef-prepared entrees, along with beer and wine.
During the off season, the Subie Shack offers grab and go lunch options for those who make it to the summit either by hiking or via the K1 Gondola.
The Superstar Express Quad
The Superstar Express Quad at Killington Resort is a quad chair from the K1 Base area. It goes about halfway up to the summit of K1 Peak and will bring you over a bit towards Skye Peak. Superstar services advanced and intermediate trails.
Superstar: Peak Season
Underneath the Superstar Express Quad is a trail by the same name. Superstar is a wide, steep advanced trail with gorgeous views of the Green Mountains. During peak season, Superstar is covered in many feet of snow, forming the Superstar Glacier.
The Superstar Glacier allows the trail to remain open very late in the season: often until late May or even early June!
Superstar: Late Season
Even as the Superstar Glacier starts to melt away, it is still worth a trip up the Superstar Express Quad.
The Superstar Express Quad and trail are usually the last of Killington to remain open for skiing and riding into May and even June. On a clear day, the view of the Green Mountains from the top of Superstar are breathtaking.
When the snow is almost entirely gone, Killington will usually push itself for one more weekend of skiing and riding. While skiing this day in late May involved more hiking than skiing, it was a fun time and truly a novelty to be out in skis and shorts getting some turns in for Memorial Day weekend.
